La Jolla, CA, November 18, 2009 — K. D. Clewley Capital Management has continued to thrive during the market tumult of the past few years. President and founder Kevin Clewley attributes this in large part to the company’s analysis of the business cycle that it uses to avoid major market downturns. The company correctly forecast the recent recession and moved all portfolios out of stocks and into safer money market funds in Fall 2007, avoiding a subsequent 50% drop in the S&P 500. Early in the summer of 2009, the firm correctly anticipated the end of the recession and moved back into stocks. Since then, the S&P 500 has increased by 16%.

In contrast to the prevailing buy and hold mentality on Wall Street, Clewley uses a proprietary list of leading economic indicators to accurately forecast U.S. economic growth looking out 2-3 quarters and adjusts portfolios accordingly. The good news is that the data shows that despite ongoing worries, both the U.S. and global economy are set for fairly strong growth over the next few quarters. At some point, hopefully a few years away, the firm’s leading indicators will again turn down as a new recession approaches.
